  • PLANTING

Orlaya prefers well-drained soil and a sunny to partially shaded location in the garden.

Plant seeds directly into the soil after the last frost date in your area, when the soil temperature reaches around 15°C.

Sow the seeds thinly, about 1/4 inch deep, and gently press them into the soil surface.

Space the seeds or seedlings about 6-12 inches apart to allow for adequate air circulation and growth.

    GROWING

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination and growing periods. Water at the base of the plants to avoid wetting the foliage, which can lead to diseases.

Once seedlings emerge, thin them to the desired spacing, removing weaker plants to allow the stronger ones to thrive.

Mulch around the plants to help retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.

Orlaya generally does not require fertilization; however, if your soil is poor, you can mix in a rich compost to your soil before planting.

    MAINTENANCE

Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.

Provide support for the plants if they become top-heavy or start to lean by installing small stakes or using garden twine to gently tie them to nearby supports.

    HARVESTING

Orlaya flowers can be cut for fresh or dried arrangements. Harvest the flowers when they are fully open but before they start to set seed.

Use clean, sharp snips to cut the stems just above a set of leaves or lateral branch.

    SEEDS SAVING

If you wish to save seeds for future planting, allow some flowers to remain on the plants until they form seed heads. Once the seed heads have dried and turned brown, collect the seeds and store them in a cool, dry place until the next planting season.

By following these guidelines, you can cultivate beautiful Orlaya flowers in your garden, adding elegance and charm to your outdoor space.
